Becoming a respite provider can be meaningful, flexible work and a way to support families in your community while earning independently.
RespiteConnect helps you:
- Understand the basic requirements to work safely
- Connect with families and carers looking for local support
- Build a profile and manage your own availability and rates
- Provide guidance and resources to help you get started
As a respite provider you might:
- Spend time offering companionship
- Support community outings or activities
- Provide flexible respite cover so carers can take a break
- Be a consistent, trusted presence for local families
This role is community-based support only. It does not include medical or nursing care unless you are appropriately qualified and insured.

We arrange a brief call. This helps us learn more about your interests and suitability for respite and companionship support. - Safeguarding Checks
Before introductions are made, we ask to see evidence of current PVG membership and appropriate insurance. - Profile Created
A short anonymous summary of your experience and availability will be shared with families looking for support. - Connect with Families
If a family wishes to proceed, contact details are shared and arrangements are then made directly between you and the family.
What You’ll Need
To be listed on RespiteConnect, providers must:
- Be a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme through Disclosure Scotland
- Hold appropriate insurance
- Agree to our Code of Conduct
Providers listed on RespiteConnect set their own rates and are paid directly by families. Providers operate independently and are not employed by RespiteConnect
