Codes of conduct

RespiteConnect exists to create safe, respectful, and professional connections between families, carers, and independent respite providers. All users of the platform are expected to adhere to this Code of Conduct.

Discrimination and Equal Treatment

RespiteConnect is committed to promoting equality, inclusion, and respect.
All providers and families must interact in a way that is free from discrimination, harassment, or bias based on any protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, including but not limited to: age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

When making introductions or providing support, all participants are expected to base decisions on skills, experience, practical needs, and compatibility, not on personal identity traits.


Any concerns about discrimination or inappropriate conduct should be reported to RespiteConnect. We take all reports seriously and will take appropriate action to maintain a safe and inclusive community.

For Providers
All providers listed on RespiteConnect agree to:


Safeguarding & Legal Requirements

  • Hold a current PVG membership through
    Disclosure Scotland
  • Maintain appropriate insurance policies at all times
  • Notify RespiteConnect immediately if safeguarding status changes

Professional Conduct

  • Treat all clients with dignity, respect, and compassion
  • Maintain clear professional boundaries
  • Be punctual, reliable, and communicative
  • Only provide services they are competent and insured to deliver

Scope of Support

  • Provide community-based respite and companionship only
  • Do not offer medical or regulated care unless appropriately qualified and insured

Confidentiality

  • Respect client privacy
  • Do not share personal information without consent
  • Keep any records secure and confidential

Payments & Agreements

  • Set your own rates
  • Provide clear, regular invoices to clients
  • Be paid directly by clients
  • Manage your own tax and legal obligations
  • Understand that RespiteConnect is not your employer

Reputation & Community Standards

  • Act honestly and ethically
  • Avoid discrimination or exploitation
  • Follow RespiteConnect‘s guidelines and policies
  • Breaches may result in removal from the platform

For Families / Carers/ Clients

Families using RespiteConnect are expected to:

  • Treat providers with respect and courtesy
  • Provide accurate information about support needs
  • Communicate clearly and promptly
  • Pay agreed rates promptly
  • Respect professional boundaries

Platform Responsibility

RespiteConnect:

  • Is a connecting platform, not a regulated care provider
  • Does not employ providers
  • Encourages safe and professional practice at all times

Agreement
Before being listed, providers must agree to this Code of Conduct.
Families using the platform should acknowledge their responsibilities to ensure safe and respectful interactions.
